Pragma Essentials Candle Care

Caring for container candles

The initial burn is the most important! For an even burn and no tunneling, please allow enough time for the melted wax to reach the edges. It can take around 2-3 hours.

Avoid burning your candle for more than 3-4 hours at a time. This keeps the candle from over-heating and the flame from becoming too high which results in a fire hazard.

As all candles burn, carbon builds up. If you light a candle that has carbon built up on the wick, it will cause soot (black smoke) to stick to the corner of the jar, release toxins into the air and make the flame bigger so it eats through your wax faster. To avoid this, trim your wick before each use to 1/4".

Ensure candle is on a stable, flat surface away from other flammable materials.

Never extinguish a candle by blowing, as it may cause splashing and wax spills. Always use a candle snuffer or wick dipper.

Your candle is finished when there is a small amount of wax left (approx. ½ inch) within the vessel.

Please reuse your vessel! Here's how...

Both our Mason Jars and any of our thrifted vessels should be a great reusable container for planting a seed, holding your toothbrush, use as a cup... The opportunities are infinite and yours to make!

  • When you are finished burning the candle, allow the jar to cool then let it sit in the freezer for a few hours or overnight.
  • Remove as much wax as possible by breaking it into pieces.
  • Let the jar reach room temperature.
  • Pour in nearly boiling water and wait an hour.
  • The wax should rise to the top and easily come off by pouring out the water.
  • Wipe the jar out and wash with soap and water.

Caring for pillar candles

Use appropriate candle holder and never place directly on furniture.

Always place candles on a flat, level, heat resistant surface away from drafts and combustibles.

Burn candles 1 hour for every inch the candle is wide ie: a 3” pillar should burn a minimum of 3-4 hours every time.

Discontinue use when 1/2" of wax remains.
